It really is unbelievable what our Grandparents, Great Grandparents & Parents went through in World War II. I don’t think I could ever comprehend the traumas they must have suffered to ensure our country is what it is today.
Personally, I spent a great deal of time with my grandparents as a child, both lived through the war, my Grandad served in India and Burma for the whole six years and my Granny was in the WAAF and mended the damaged Wimpy Wellington and Lancaster Bombers with her team of girls. The stories they told me were at times terrifying, yet the camaraderie they spoke of was amazing, I am full of admiration for that generation.
In my quest to find great historical photos and footage of our local area I came across this incredible video from Pathe Film on Youtube – a Mock Gas Attack staged in Esher High Street in 1941 – WOW!
